Godspeed You! Black Emperor is a Canadian post-rock band from Montreal, Quebec. The band was originally formed in 1994 and disbanded in 2003. They reunited in 2010 and have since released three albums.

Their music is characterized by lengthy instrumental pieces that often build slowly, exploring themes of conflict, tragedy, and loss. Their sound has been categorized as post-rock, experimental rock, ambient music, drone rock and art rock.

They formed in 1994 by Efrim Menuck, Mike Moya and Mauro Pezzente. They were originally called Black Emperor, but they changed their name to Godspeed You! Black Emperor in 1996 after the death of D. Boon.

The band is often credited as being one of the most influential post-rock groups, and have been called "the most influential rock group since the Beatles."
